Why is job training so important?

Unemployment and underemployment can have profound and long-lasting negative impacts on individuals and their families. In addition, high rates of unemployment create economic and public health consequences that extend far beyond the individual, impacting the community at large.

The Goodwill Career & Technical Academy (GCTA) supports individuals who face obstacles to employment and who may lack the resources to pursue training for certification. We provide an inclusive, student-centric learning environment designed to help aspiring professionals earn an industry-recognized credential/certification. In addition, students receive a multitude of supportive opportunities designed to boost their employment journey, from resume and job search assistance to connections with potential employers.

Why do credentials/certifications matter?

Obtaining a credential demonstrates to a potential employer that the applicant is capable of learning concepts and skills, and retaining knowledge. And, it shows a commitment to a career path. Certifications can be a differentiator when applying for certain roles, and in some cases, may lead to higher pay.
